Glutamine So many different naturally occurring elements come into play to keep the human body moving and pumping, especially when it’s Iron your throwing around. You know you need protein for muscle, and Calcium for strong bones, and things like potassium to keep your Energy levels up, but what about some of the other components that play a vital function in building muscle and helping weight loss?

One of the major supplements that come into necessity in the bodybuilding industry are amino acids. One in particular that is extremely responsible for many different functions within building muscle and that is Glutamine.

Glutamine is an amino acid that is considered to be non essential because it stems from glutamic acid which the body already produces. The human body has different types of acids, such as lactic acid, as well as amino acids. The essential amino acids are lysine, leucine, valine, phenylalanine, theronine, Isoleucine, methionine, and tryptophan. These are the amino acids that the body can not synthesize on its own and there for must come from other sources.

The non-essential amino acids are: glutamine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, alanine, arginine, asparagines, glycine, serine, proline, tyrosine, cysteine, taurine, and ornithine. Some amino acids begin as essential but then convert to non-essential as the body begins to learn to synthesize them as we grow. One such is histidine.

Non-Essential amino acids for the most part are completely produced by our body via different biological pathways for instance glutamine utilizes glutamate receptors. These glutamates help control different protein synthesis as it occurs. Typically 4-8 grams of glutamine are sufficient for everyday activities and this is what is naturally flowing through the blood system as natural occurrences of different foods that we eat that have high levels such as fish, beans, nuts, and animal proteins. They have often been referred to as the building blocks of protein.

Glutamine, because of its two nitrogen atoms, helps to bring around 35% of the nitrogen to the body’s muscles. Nitrogen is one of the most responsible elements for building muscle definition. Because of this high nitrogen responsibility that glutamine is represents, you really don’t want a workout without incorporating glutamine into at least one of your dietary supplements for bodybuilding. Well you want be having a serious workout without glutamine, that’s for sure. Glutamine is going to help deliver results. If you are sitting there at the gym thinking that lifting weights and such is going to deliver results on its own the chances are pretty slim.

Not to be a downer, but the amount of proper nutritional food that would need to be consumed in order to maintain the glutamine levels in the system would just be a bit absurd, and if your muscles don’t have the right tools to build themselves up then how can you expect them to respond to the task of intense physical exercise. Give the muscles what they need on top of the exercise by supplementing them with glutamine. It’s this sort of amazing ability of Glutamine to help assist muscle growth that many scientists add it to their culture media. It produces results.

Along with functioning in bringing nitrogen into the muscular structure, glutamine also plays an important role in pH balance. It’s all intertwined as an amazing physiological system full of adenosine triphosphates, lactates, and recombinant proteins, but In order to bring down the house with different amino acids there are important physiological actions that must occur.

One of them being that ammonia actually helps to contribute an important source of nitrogen, but ammonia is also typically considered a waste product by the body. The liver then helps to process this ammonia into urea through a process that is known as the urea cycle. Basically what this equates too is that because our bodies produce ammonia, which is very basic, there needs to be an acid that is going to balance it out. The body uses glutamine to do this.

If there is extra glutamine in the body it is stored in the cells where it can then be used to be split up into glutamate and ammonia to help the body if acid levels begin to get to high. It all boils down to having enough glutamine in the body. And when you are doing high intense workouts the body needs the extra glutamine. Products like Pro Science Armor by EAS know that the body doesn’t just need the extra glutamine to produce maximum results and that is why they have paired it up with other great workout boosters like L-Arginine and HMB, which is essentially a hybrid form of L-Leucine, and is great at continually burning fat while promoting muscle growth. Combining glutamine with some of the other amino acids provides for a high-quality maximum output product.

As some anaerobic processes occur glutamate is carried over through one of the most essential compounds in metabolic reactions like pyruvate. Maintaining proper levels of insulin, amino acids, and proteins will ensure that the body as a machine is essentially well fueled and functioning best and as we make new discoveries studying different carbon isotopes, glutamine is being combined with several other different supplements, such as kainic acid, which comes from seaweed, to offer even better components of giving the body plant based nutrients since the general level of plants that we consume is low.

Glutamate receptors, such as n methyl aspartate and quisqualic acid, help to control the flow of different neurotransmitter agents which play a big role in the function of memory as well as the different flexibility of synaptic responses which are involved in everyday mental functioning and well being. Your glutamate receptors, neurotransmitters on top of many different neurological responses, also deal with pain and the central nervous system. It’s not to say that with your glutamate receptors firing on high that you’re going to feel no pain but you just might make it through those intensive weight training sessions with a little more endurance. When the mind’s synapses are all firing properly you’re going to have the kind of focus that’s necessary to complete the tasks at hand. Optimum Nutrition’s Glutamine Powder contains a straight dose of 5 grams of L-Glutamine. This gives you more of the essential amino acid than you are likely to get in a day’s worth of food and if you really want to punch up your amount of glutamine intake a product like L-Glutamine 1000 by MRM provides 1000mg of glutamine in every serving. It all depends on how intense you’re working out, and your own metabolism, as to how much your body is going to need.

Because glutamine plays such an important role in protein synthesis you can be sure that pairing it with protein supplement is going to be a smart choice. Not only are you going to get one of the top best building blocks for protein but giving that building block some good protein to really build with.

That’s the logic behind smart products like Protein Plus by Met-RX. With this easy to make shake you get 46 grams of Casein protein, a slower processing protein that will assess your body throughout the duration of your workout as well as help out after ward and Whey Protein, once of the best bio-available proteins that gets into the body’s muscles and works quickly, along with 3 grams of L-glutamine. In these proteins there are also a naturally occurring branched chain amino acid trio of L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, and L-Valine.

To really fuel the muscles you can even consider a company like AST Sports Science nutrition that has formulated a micronized Glutamine that is a smaller particle glutamine that is actually 20 times smaller than typical Glutamine. Products like AST Sports Science GL-3 L-Glutamine contain this micronized version.

Glutamine is typically put into some sort of powder format and is then put into a drink for consumption but because of this micronized version of glutamine that AST Sports Science has created a capsule format is actually available. This means that if making drinks and measuring out scoops are not your way to go, you can save the time with a capsule like the GL3-750.

But all in all, glutamine is a very versatile supplement that can be used in a variety of different drinks and capsules. There are ready to drink products as well as a variety of powders that come in flavors like Blue Line Series GL-6 manufactured by Sports One which also contains an advanced glutamine matrix that contains a variety of different glutamine peptides designed to be able to get your body into an even higher level of optimum performance.

So whatever form that you decide to go with, the results are in: Glutamine is going to become extremely vital to producing your bodybuilding goals!
